Still in need of local contributors
GAYLORD, MN, April 2, 2019 – At its meeting on March 28, the Prairie Lakes Regional Arts Council agreed to provide La Grande Bande with a $4,000 Arts and Cultural Heritage grant. The funds will provide about 44 percent of the income necessary for LGB’s Sibley East Education Project.
Even with this amount of funding, La Grande Bande is seeking additional individual and business contributors to support our project. “Creating great music is an expensive proposition,” said Music & Artistic Director Michael Thomas Asmus. “We believe in this project because of the great benefit it will provide to Sibley East’s students and the local community. So does the Prairie Lakes Regional Arts Council.”
Local businesses like Lundstrom Insurance, Locher Brothers, The Prairie House, ProGrowth Bank, The Arlington Haus, Y-Not Plumbing & Heating, and Uecker Insurance, have already contributed approximately $800. Local individuals have contributed over $1,200. “We’ve received contributions from several local businesses, but we still need about $1,000 more to break even on the project,” Asmus confirmed.
The local communities will also benefit from this unique project. Community members can attend an open rehearsal on May 10 beginning at 3:45 pm. “There is so much classical music used in television ads now,” Asmus commented. “It’s almost guaranteed that everyone has heard at least one piece of Baroque music in a commercial, like Handel’s ‘Hallelujah Chorus’ from Messiah,” Asmus remarked. “Even some Netflix previews have Baroque music as backing tracks.”
“A Baroque Banquet,” the project’s finale concert, takes place on May 10 at 7:30 pm. Tickets are available for purchase at www.lagrandebande.org/tickets. This activity is made possible by the voters of Minnesota through a grant from the Prairie Lakes Regional Arts Council, thanks to a legislative appropriation from the Arts and Cultural Heritage Fund.
