There is no sweeter sound in the world than a consort of viols playing in perfect harmony. This program will be no exception. The compositions by Hume, Byrd, Gibbons, Purcell, and more, will showcase the viol in a similar manner it was enjoyed by Queen Elizabeth, King James II, and many a player in their own homes. Although the viol consort was extremely common in 16th-century England, its popularity declined in the 17th century. Enjoy the sonorous melodies and delicate tone of these lovely, angelic instruments.
