La Grande Bande | Twin Cities Early Music Festival
There is no sweeter sound in the world than a consort of viols playing in perfect harmony. This program will be no exception. The compositions by Hume, Byrd, Gibbons, Purcell, and more, will showcase the viol in a similar manner it was enjoyed by Queen Elizabeth, King James II, and many a player in their own homes. Although the viol consort was extremely common in 16th-century England, its popularity declined in the 17th century. Enjoy the sonorous melodies and delicate tone of these lovely, angelic instruments.
Included on the program are works by Tobias Hume, William Byrd, Thomas Tallis, Anthony Holborne, and more.
Performers
Julie Elhard, Maryne Mossey, Mary Burke, Josh Schwalbach, and Mark Kausch, violas da gamba
