Acclaimed for his “breezy baritone” (Bachtrack) and a voice “perfectly suited to baroque music” (KCMetropolis), baritone Jared Swope performs as both soloist and ensemble singer in repertoire spanning early music, oratorio, and contemporary classical works. From Gregorian chant to newly commissioned oratorios and song cycles, he appears in a wide range of performance venues across the United States.

Recent solo engagements include Handel’s Messiah (Ensemble Altera), J.S. Bach’s cantatas Herz und Mund und Tat und Leben and Aus der Tiefen (Three Notch’d Road), Craig Hella Johnson’s Considering Matthew Shepard (Oregon Bach Festival), and Vaughan Williams’ Five Mystical Songs (St. Thomas More Festival Chorus). In June 2024, Jared made his Carnegie Hall solo debut with Fourth Wall Ensemble and the Silver Nitrate Big Band, performing Jeff Beal’s score to The Cabinet of Doctor Caligari.

An avid collaborator, Jared regularly performs with ensembles including True Concord Voices & Orchestra, Spire Chamber Ensemble, Apollo’s Fire, CORO Vocal Artists, Artefact Ensemble, and the Oregon Bach Festival Chorus. He sings liturgically with the Trinity Choir, Yale Consort, and substitutes at St. Thomas Fifth Avenue in New York City, among other institutions.

A founding member of Fourth Wall Ensemble, Jared appears on the group’s debut album Ad Manus, followed by recordings of Beal’s The Cabinet of Doctor Caligari and Samuel Siskind’s Release. His discography also includes releases with Yale Schola Cantorum, Kansas City Repertory Singers, Chorosynthesis Singers, and multiple publisher recording projects.

Jared holds a Master of Music from Yale University and a Master of Sacred Music from the University of Notre Dame. He resides in New Haven, Connecticut.
